Clinic and Medication Policies

Medication Administration at CRO

Administering medication to students during school hours or school-related activities at Cristo Rey Orlando High School is generally discouraged unless necessary for a student's critical health and well-being.

If your student needs to take a doctor-prescribed or over-the-counter medication during the school day, you must fill out all sections of the Parent-Guardian Medical Information & Consent Form. This form provides space for up to three medications.

It is your responsibility as the parent/guardian to provide the school with all medications:

  • Prescription medications must be in their original pharmacy container, clearly labeled with instructions from the healthcare provider.
  • Over-the-counter medications must be in a new, unopened package with the manufacturer's label still intact.

For certain medications, a self-carry option is available. If you have questions about this, please contact the Clinic to discuss.

Medication forms are valid for one school year, and new authorization forms must be submitted each year. All medications should be picked up by the end of the school year; any that are not collected will be disposed of following proper protocol.

Medical Conditions and Action Plans

If your student has a medical condition that CRO needs to know about—such as asthma, food or environmental allergies, seizures, or diabetes—a current action plan from your student's healthcare provider must be on file at the clinic. This plan helps us understand and respond to any potential interventions or medication needs that may arise during the school day.

Action plans are valid for one academic year. A new action plan must be submitted at the start of each school year, and updated plans are required if any changes happen during the year.

Illness and Attendance Guidelines

When your student returns to school after an absence or tardiness, an absent/tardy form must be submitted to the Attendance Office that same day. CRO will call to remind you about submitting this form upon the student's return. Please be aware that the attendance hotline is no longer available.

WHEN TO KEEP YOUR STUDENT HOME (OR REASONS THEY MIGHT BE SENT HOME FROM SCHOOL):

  • Fever of 100.4°F or over: Your student must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.
  • Contagious Infections: For conditions like conjunctivitis (pink eye), strep infections, and impetigo, your student must be on medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school to prevent spreading the infection to others.
  • Rash of unknown origin: Especially if it’s accompanied by a fever.
  • Head injury: Unless evaluated by a healthcare provider and cleared to be at school.
  • Severe coughing or trouble breathing.
  • Diarrhea or vomiting: Your student must stay home until they have been without symptoms for at least 24 hours.
